SUMMARY:POETS IN THE ‘ROOT: A Celebration of Natural History And Poetry
DESCRIPTION:POETS IN THE ‘ROOT: A Celebration of Natural History And Poetry \nProudly hosted at Teller Wildlife Refuge 1180 Chaffin Lane\, Corvallis\, MT \nSaturday August 8 1:00-3:00\nFree and Open to the Public \nNature has always inspired poets! And\, poetry seeks to both instruct and delight. Poets\nin the ‘Root combines the magic and biology of nature. One person reads a poem or\npart of a poem that uses an element of nature to convey its message. Then the same or\nanother person gives an explanation (5 minutes max) of some aspect of that nature\nelement. The explanation focuses on the scientific interpretation of the nature element within the poem. \nListeners get a bit of poetry and a bit of natural history. \nAnyone can volunteer to read a poem and/or offer nature interpretation. Some read\npoems by others\, but if you’re a poet\, we’d love to hear your own work. \nWe’ll have snacks\, tea\, and wine. Please send your poems and natural history interpretation (or let us know if you need\nsomeone else to do the interpretation) to Star Jameson at\nstarwho44@gmail.com\nAlso Supported by: BITTERROOT BIRD ALLIANCE & CHAPTER ONE BOOKSTORE. \nArt by Deb Goslin. \n

SUMMARY:MPG Fall Bird Banding
DESCRIPTION:We will venture onto the MPG Ranch to visit the University of Montana’s Bird Ecology Lab (UMBEL) fall bird banding station. The biologists there will share their discoveries and participants will learn how a bird banding station operates and what it can reveal about the natural world. We’ll also walk through some of the MPG private riparian lands in search of fall migrants. Before leaving MPG\, we’ll visit with the RaptorView biologists to learn about fall raptor migration. Participants must fill out an online waiver before admission to MPG’s private property. \nWe’ll be on the MPG property from 8:30 am to about 12:30 pm. The trail from the parking area to the bird banding station is about 150 yards down a path. We may walk up to a mile in the area if there is interest among the group. There are no formal bathrooms but lots of natural cover. \nPlease text me (208-471-8297) with questions several days ahead of the field trip so we are sure to take care of the waiver in time for the trip. I will provide specifics for where to meet\, etc.
