Monthly Programs

Bitterroot Bird Alliance hosts a monthly meeting the third Monday of each month, September-May. Many of our programs focus on birds or issues that impact bird populations or their habitat. We have also welcomed programs on many other topics, including climate change, wolverines, and global bird travel. Please check our calendar for details about upcoming programs.

Field Trips

Field Trips

Bitterroot Bird Alliance provides field trip opportunities to birding spots throughout the Bitterroot Valley and beyond. We post upcoming field trips on our website calendar and in our newsletter. Would you like to lead a trip? Do you have a suggestion for a field trip? Please use the Contact Us feature to let us know.

Education

Education

The Bitterroot Bird Alliance Education Program focuses on educating the general public about local birds and the habitats they occupy. This goal is met through our monthly speaker series, educational field trips, and specific programming.

We always need sponsors for the Audubon Adventures program, which provides free educational materials to teachers and classrooms throughout the Bitterroot Valley. To sponsor a classroom, please make your check payable to Bitterroot Bird Alliance and send it to:

Christmas Bird Count

Christmas Bird Count

The Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is an annual event sponsored by the National Audubon Society. Every year between the dates of December 14 and January 5, over 50,000 bird enthusiasts around the world tally the number of individual birds and species seen in almost 2,000 count areas. Data from the CBC are used to examine long-term trends in bird population numbers and distribution.

Participating in CBCs is a popular winter past-time for Bitterroot Valley birders. While CBCs are conducted all over the state of Montana, members of Bitterroot Bird Alliance coordinate two counts: Hamilton and Stevensville.

If you are interested in participating in either local CBC this season, please watch the December calendar for the dates of the events. Birders of all levels are welcome.

For more information about the Christmas Bird Count program or to view species information from counts in Montana, including those from Hamilton and Stevensville, please go to Audubon Christmas Bird Count.
